Abstract: Microsponges are polymeric delivery systems composed of porous microspheres. They are tiny sponge-like spherical particles with a large porous surface. Microsponge is recent novel technique for control release and target specific drug delivery system. They are desire to deliver API efficiently at the minimum dose and also to enhance stability, reduce side effect and modify drug release. Itraconazole Microsponges were successfully prepared by a quasi-emulsion solvent diffusion method by using polymers such as ethyl cellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, triethyl citrate (TEC20-40 %) as plasticizer. Itraconazole loaded microsponge was prepared in a ratio of 1: 1, 1: 2, 1; 3, 1; 4, 1: 5, 1: 6, 1: 7, 1: 8, 1: 9 and porous spherical & stable, microsponge are obtained in the range of 40 % to 45 % and above. This microsponge evaluated by SEM, Particle size analysis, Entrapment efficiency, DSC, FTIR, IR spectroscopy. This study showed that microsponge were found spherical and porous surface structure, more stable, inert and drug is molecularly dispersed in the formulation.
