Vijaya Packirisamy | Dr. Vijayalakshmi Krishnamorthi
Abstract: The leaf was collected and extracted with different organic solvents and the phytochemical screening was carried out using the standard procedures. Alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins saponins, steroids and glycosides were found to be present in the leaf extracts. The Proximate composition and Phytochemical characteristics were determined for Terminalia catappa leaves. The results obtained showed the moisture content 7.180.18 moisture; ash 20.20.48 ; crude fiber 20.470.59 and the carbohydrate 187.40.53 ; protein 86.730.75 was present in the mature leaves of Terminalia catappa L. The present study revealed that the plant contain many phytochemicals which may be responsible for the medicinal properties.
