Allergic Rhinitis Role in the Success of Tympanoplasty
Dr. Priyanka Gupta [2] | Dr. Ashish Goyal [5]
Abstract: Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of allergic rhinitis in the success of tympanoplasty. Methods: The study was prospective and the study population was selected from patients admitted for middle ear pathology in ENT ward at Sri Aurobindo Medical College & PG Institute, Indore. Total 40 patients, 20 from each group (AR-allergic rhinitis; NAR- non allergic rhinitis) were undergone through type1 tympanoplasty. Results: Success rate of tympanoplasty was measured in terms of Graft uptake rate, which was 90 % in NAR group and 80 % in AR group. However, the difference between groups was not statistically significant (p =.747). Conclusions: These findings suggest that allergic rhinitis decreases the graft uptake rate, although a statistically significant difference was not found. Prospective studies with larger patient groups with long-term follow-up are required in order to evaluate this pathology.
