Study on Efficacy of Nasal Steroids in Adenoid Hypertrophy and Otitis Media with Effusion in Pediatric Age Group

Abstract: Adenoids are a part of the Waldeyer’s ring of lymphoid tissue at the portal of the upper respiratory tract and it is the first site of contact for inhaled antigens. It plays an important role in the ‘immunological memory’ in children but it is also associated with many pediatric pathologies such as upper airway obstruction, obstructive sleep apnea and most commonly otitis media with effusion. This is a prospective study in the tertiary health care centre of Guahati medical college, Assam conducted on 12 patients of 3-15 years of age for a duration of 1year from july 2017-june2018, to study the efficacy of topical steroid spray in improving the clinical and audiological status of children with otitis media due to adenoid hypertrophy.
