Student Participation in Classroom Discussions

Abstract: This paper aims to reveal the importance of student participation in classroom discussions and review some of the most salient definition on classroom participation, and also bring some reasons students do or do not participate in class logistics. At the end of the paper we also have some benefits of getting students to participate in Classroom discussions. Here we give a comprehensive overview of the benefits of participation, logistical issues in participation, student confidence and personality traits in participation, the instructors influence on and suggestions for increasing participation, the role of sex in participation, and participation in web-based courses. Finally we concluded that the ideal class discussion as one in which all students were participating, learning, and listening to others ideas, comments, and questions, is important for the success of the class.
