Ethno Medicinal, Phyto Chemical and Therapeutic Importance of Physalis angulata L.: A Review

Abstract: Physalis angulata L. belonging to nightshade plant family Solanaceae. It shows cosmopolitan habitat and easily available in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangna, India. The plant has shown great ethno medicinal importance and high medicinal values. The present review paper expressed the profile of Physalis angulata L. as well as its ethno medicine, phytochemistry and therapeutic importance. Most of the research, in vitro and in vivo studies of this plant throughout the world has proven its antimicrobial, antibacterial, anticancer, antimalaria, antitumor, antileukemia, antihyperglycemic, antitrypanosomal, antiallergic, antiprotozoan, antioxidant, antinociceptive, antiasthmatic, anti-inflammatory, antimolluscan, antituberculosis immunomodulatory and antiviral, activities.
