Social Aspects of Bangladeshi Seafarers: An Assessment

Abstract: The goal of this thesis is to give special importance to the unstable social life of seafarers onboard ship or at home town can influence the safety of the ship, and to bring to mind that the seafaring profession needs a global approach to the development of seafarers living and job conditions. The second chapter is the literature review of my dissertation. Here I discussed about what resources I found related to my study and what are the materials I studied for my work. The resources are mentioned in reference section. The third chapter delineates seafarers social life in two deferent aspects: onboard ship social life that influenced by human relation, working and living conditions and home-town social life with the difficulties of job insecurity, family and shore isolation and the lack of social security. The Bangladeshi seafarers situation is highlighted in chapter four with an analysis to evaluate Bangladeshi work force. Finally, the last chapter shows the importance of considering the development of living and working conditions as a global problem, in which the different factors influencing the physical and mental well being of the seafarers are inter-related and recommendations for the better life of seafarers.
