Seasonal Influence on the Diversity of Snails from Nakane Lake in Dhule District of Maharasahtra (India)

Petare R. K | Khodake S. P.

Abstract: Seasonal fluctuations in diversity (diversity indices) of freshwater snails Bellamya bengalensis and Melanoides tuberculata were studied from Nakane Lakein Dhule district during the year 2018-19. It was observed that the diversity and density of both the species was highest in summer, lowest in monsoon and intermediate in winter. The population density of Bellamya bengalensis, was 12, 05 and 08 o/m2 in summer, monsoon and winter season respectively, while population density of snail species, Mellanoides tuberculata, in summer, monsoon and winter season was 18, 07 and 13 o/m2 respectively. The values of Shannon- Wiener diversity index at Nakane Lakewere 0.3664, 0.3647 and 0.3676 during summer, monsoon and winter season respectively. The values of Simpsons index of diversity at Nakane Lakewere 0.50, 0.54 and 0.50 during summer, monsoon and winter season respectively. The species richness at Nakane Lakewas 02. The values of Pielous index of evenness at Nakane Lakewere 0.97, 0.97 and 0.95 during summer, monsoon and winter season respectively.
