Is the Employee Performance Influenced by Organizational Culture, Work Environment, Work Motivation, and Job Satisfaction?

Suhaya | Jarnawi Afgani Dahlan

Abstract: The aim of this research is to examine the factors that affect, both directly and indirectly, employee performance. The internal factors that directly play a major role in affecting employee performance are work motivation and job satisfaction. The external factors that are assumed to have a role, either directly or indirectly, in employee performance are organizational culture and work environment. The study employed a cross-sectional survey design with cluster sampling technique at the Tangerang Regency Revenue Agency. The sample chosen consisted of 85 respondents. To measure the five variables, Likert scale questionnaire was used. The results show that the variables that directly and significantly affect employee performance are work motivation and job satisfaction. In addition, job satisfaction indirectly affects performance through work motivation. The effect of organizational culture on performance is indirect, i. e. through job satisfaction. An interesting finding is that organizational culture has no direct effect on work motivation. The effect of organizational culture on work motivation is indirect, i. e. through job satisfaction. Meanwhile, the environment indirectly affects motivation and performance, i. e. through job satisfaction. Out of all variables analyzed, the variable most significantly affecting employee performance is work motivation (directly), followed by job satisfaction (directly and indirectly), work environment (indirectly), and organizational culture (indirectly).
