Design of a Second Generation Structural Column Implementing the Geometry of an Egg
Nischal Khawas | Soumyadeep Sarkar [4]
Abstract: A column or pillar in structural engineering is a structural element that transmits, through compression, the weight of one structure above other structure below. A stanchion that carries the load downwards to a foundation must possess the way to transfer the load without overstressing the foundation material. This paper presents a model for an egg shaped concrete confined by elliptical steel frames with binding bars. The benefits of hollow structural sections from a design and structural point of view have long been investigated by architects and engineers worldwide. This paper documents the design, operation and construction which are used to illustrate prospective applications, heuristic and empirical suggestions, technically made regarding construction of such a technique.
