Abstract: Russian forms of electrical stimulation became popular to a large extent as a result of the activities of Kots; who claimed force gains of up to 40 % in elite athletes as a result of what was then a new form of stimulation. EMS in combination with voluntary exercise has also been shown significantly effective in increasing strength in asymptomatic subjects and in those recovering from reconstructive surgery. Comparing studies and drawing valid conclusions concerning the use of EMS is difficult because of inadequate standardization of experimental procedures. This study; therefore; was prompted to assess the effects of Russian currents and to compare strength training modes on improving Quadriceps muscle strength and width in asymptomatic young adults.
