Nephrectomy is a common procedure in surgical practice. It can be partial nephrectomy or radical nephrectomy, indicated in patients with neoplastic and non neoplastic conditions ranging from chronic infections, obstruction, calculous disease, renal cell carcinomas. Objective: This study aimed to assess the histopathological spectrum, neoplastic or non-neoplastic conditions in nephrectomies received in our department. Methods: A hospital based retrospective study over a period of 8 years from January 2011 to January 2019 of all nephrectomy specimens received in our department. Results: A total 30 cases over a period of eight years from January 2011 to January 2019 were studied. There was male predominance (63.34 %) and 30 % of the cases were in the age group of 31-40 year, 73.34 % of the nephrectomies were performed for non neoplastic indications. A wide range of lesions were found on histopathological examination. Chronic pyelonephritis was the most common histopathological diagnosis (30 %). Conclusion: Inflammatory causes more commonly required a nephrectomy in the study population. Chronic calculous pyelonephritis was the most common underlying pathophysiology leading to a nonfunctioning kidney.
