Study of Traffic Sign Detection and Recognition Algorithms

Abstract: In todays era of autonomous vehicles and connected cars, traffic sign detection and recognition is an important feature of autonomous vehicles and advanced driver assistance systems. There has been extensive research in this field and it has been a consistent application domain in the automotive sector. Recent times have seen the emergence of a large number of public datasets corresponding to different countries, over which traffic sign detection and recognition techniques are being employed. We present a survey paper which involves a comprehensive study of existing techniques being used, along with a performance analysis over different datasets. We also discuss the trade-off of the different options in terms of accuracy and recognition time.
