Association of Dyslipidemia with Angiographically Proven Severity of Coronary Artery Disease

Dr. A.G. Kulkarni, Dr. Pooja Balani, Dr. Dhananjay Jabade

BACKGROUND: Dyslipidemia is a primary, widely established as an independent major risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD) and may even be a prerequisite for CAD, occurring before other major risk factors come into play. Hence, the study is done to record the association of dyslipidemia with the severity of angiographically proven coronary artery disease patients. OBJECTIVES: To know the association of dyslipidemia with angiographically proven severity of coronary artery disease (Single vessel disease, Double Vessel disease, Triple Vessel disease and non-significant disease). METHODS: 112 angiographically proven coronary artery disease patients (mean ageSD: 56.9310.61 years) were enrolled for the study. All patients were evaluated for dyslipidemia and blood samples were collected or biochemical markers. RESULTS: There was a significant association between dyslipidemia and incidence of CAD (p-value=0.007). But no significant association was seen with the severity of CAD (p-value=0.056). CONCLUSION: The present study demonstrates that dyslipidemia is associated with risk of coronary artery disease but not associated with the severity of coronary artery disease.
