AIM: The aim of this study was to determine the functional outcome of rotating-platform total knee replacement system.PATIENTS AND METHODS: 40 patients were randomised to receive rotating-platform PFC Sigma total knee replacement. Range of movement (ROM) and Knee Society score (KSS) were assessed independently before and one year after surgery. Weight-bearing X-rays were taken immediately and one year post surgery to determine the incidence of osteolysis and loosening. RESULTS: At a mean follow-up of 12 months there was statistically significant difference in mean ROM and KSS scores.Mean flexion achieved postoperatively was 135 from mean preoperative flexion of 100.Thirty five patients were able to sit cross legged and 90 % were able to kneel There was no evidence of osteolysis or loosening in the group and no revision for infection or implant failure.CONCLUSION: This study shows that there is good postoperative flexion, functional outcome and good short term survivorship of implants.
