Effect of Low-Level Laser Therapy (660nm) with Output Power of 30 mW in the Management of the Experimentally Induced Oral Mucositis

Dr. Bahaa. A. A. Hadi, Prof. Dr. Jamal N. Ahmed

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate the effet of 660nm (30mw) low level laser therapy (LLLT) in the management of oral muositis indued by 60mg/kg MTX (MTX, fizer, Italy) in DA. Rat. Thirty-eight rats were inluded and divided into two groups ( n=16) ontrol group (no treatment), (n=22) Therapeuti laser 30mw group [LLLT from day 6 to day11] (LLLT from D 6 to D 11). The animals reeived a intraperitoneal inetion of MTX on Days 0 and 3 (30mg/kg). Their radiation parameters were indium-gallium-aluminum-phosphide (InGaAl) diode laser hotonlaseIR model (DMEQUIAMENTOS LTDA) (660 nm, 30 mW), beam area of 0.036 m, 1.16 W/m, 10 /m, power density applied daily of 40.6 /m, in ontat mode (seven points and five seonds per point) and, one appliation per day. The experiment lasted 11 days and OM was analyzed by speifilinial sales on days 6 and 11. The animals were sarified on Day 11. The laser therapeuti group had statistially signifiant lower linial sores than the ontrol group at Day 11. This study showed that positiveeffets on oral muositis management were obtained when LLLT was applied in this therapeuti protool (from D6 to D11). Regarding linial sores, therewere no statistial signifiant differenes between study groups (p<0.05) at day six. In omparison with linial sores at day six there were statistially signifiant negative orrelations (R=-0.055) (p= 0.0089). Aording to the methodology used and the results obtained in the present study, LLLT 660nm 30 therapy was the best hoie to derease the severity of OM treatment of experimental oral muositis with 10/m2 doseintensity.
