Influence of Nonionic Surfactant on the Carbon Steel Corrosion in Hydrochloric Acid Solution

In this study; the inhibition effect of Polyoxyethylene-20-sorbitan monooleate (TW80) on carbon steel corrosion in 1 M HCl solution was studied. For this aim; electrochemical techniques such as potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used. Polarization measurements indicated that; the studied inhibitor acts as mixed-type inhibitor. The adsorption of TW80 molecules on the carbon steel surface obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The thermodynamic parameters such as the adsorption equilibrium and the free energy of adsorption are calculated and discussed.
