Experimental Investigation of Process Parameters on Weld Bead Geometry for Aluminium Using GTAW

Parthiv T. Trivedi, Ashwin P. Bhabhor

Gas tungsten arc welding; GTAW; is one of the widely used techniques for joining ferrous and non-ferrous metals. In this study experiments were carried out as per central composite design and regression analysis was conducted to determine input output relationships of the process. The input process parameters such as current; welding speed and gas flow rate were controlled using the control panel of the automatic welding set up for welding Aluminium AA6063 alloy. GTAW process is well known for narrow welds that means deeper penetration and narrower weld width. To consider these quality characteristics a constrained optimization problem was formulated. Genetic Algorithm with a penalty term was used to solve the said problem.
