Dr. Shazia Nisar, Dr. Shahzada Shahid Banday
The most common mode of transmission of Hepatitis-B is from infected mother to baby i.e., vertical transmission and it accounts for 50-60 % of those that are chronically infected. Among these 50-60 %, 25 % die from complications of HBV related diseases. It was a retrospective study carried at our hospital of SKIMS, Soura. Antenatal record over a period of one year (March 2017-May 2018) was analyzed. Total number of patients chosen for study was 400. Out of 400, number of patients who tested positive for HbsAg by ELISA was 32 %. Thus prevalence of HBV infected patients in otherwise healthy pregnant patients was 8 %.
